The Vapor Trapper is a high quality 6061 billet aluminum charcoal vapor canister that is proudly made in the USA. It is universally designed to be installed on the

atmosphere vent line of your vintage car, truck, hotrod, or marine fuel cells to reduce/eliminate raw fuel smells in your garage or storage. As an authorized distributor, this Vapor Trapper purchase comes with a lifetime serviceability warranty through Shop 48.

Nothing else on the market is as high quality or effective as the Vapor Trapper. Installation of the Vapor Trapper is easy. It installs in-line with your fuel tank vent hose via practically any inlet/outlet configuration. Most commonly a -6 3/8 barb fitting is used (sold separately), but you can also use -6 AN ORB for custom installation. You can use simple rubber lined dell clamps, that we offer, or any custom 2 1/2 inch clamp. These are very effective and have been very well received by the vintage car/truck community, as well as dozens of high end shops who are exclusively using the Vapor Trapper on all of their builds!

Vapor Trappers come in black or clear anodizing to ensure a clean and classy finish to last a lifetime. Sizes are 8" and 6".

All models are in stock and ship in 1-2 business days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a charcoal canister work on a carbureted engine without a purge valve?

Yes. The Vapor Trapper™ is designed for vented (non-EVAP) fuel systems — exactly the setup found on most hot rods, classic cars, and marine builds. It absorbs raw fuel vapor from the tank vent line passively, no purge valve, no engine vacuum source, and no ECU input required.

Where do I install the Vapor Trapper on my fuel system?

The canister mounts inline on the atmosphere vent line — between the fuel tank vent and open atmosphere. Common mounting locations are the frame rail, firewall, inner fender, or directly to a fuel cell. Use Dell clamps or our billet billet aluminum clamp, plus the included screw kit. The vent line should run uphill from the tank to the canister to keep liquid fuel out of the charcoal.

How do I choose between the 6" and 8" canister?

The 6" model is sized for engines up to roughly 350 cubic inches with a single fuel tank — most street rods, classics, and small-block builds. The 8" model has more charcoal capacity, recommended for big-blocks, dual-tank setups, larger fuel cells, and marine applications. When in doubt, oversize — more charcoal means longer service intervals.

How often should I recharge the charcoal media?

Under normal driving, the charcoal media will last several years before saturation. If the canister starts smelling of fuel or you store the vehicle long-term in a sealed garage, it's time to recharge. Use our Charcoal Media Refill Kit to refill the canister rather than replacing the unit.

Is the Vapor Trapper CARB-compliant or street-legal?

The Vapor Trapper™ is sold as a universal off-road / specialty vehicle accessory. It is not a CARB-certified EVAP component and does not replace OE EVAP systems on emissions-controlled vehicles. For pre-emissions vehicles (typically pre-1976 in most states) and off-road / race / marine applications, it is the preferred solution for eliminating raw fuel smell.

What fittings will I need?

Most installs use the standard 3/8" hose barb. If you have a fuel cell or aftermarket tank with -6 ORB ports, add the -6 ORB to 3/8" barb fittings. For filler-neck vent ports with 1/8" NPT, use the brass 90° elbow. The combo install kit bundles everything most builders need.

Can I use this on a boat or marine fuel tank?

Yes — vented marine fuel tanks have the same fume problem as vented automotive tanks, and the Vapor Trapper™ solves it the same way. Mount it above the tank's high-water line on the vent line. Use marine-grade fuel hose between the tank vent and the canister.
